Gary Neville: Alexis Sanchez would have been "perfect replacement" for Luis Suarez

Gary Neville says that it was "a real shame" to see Liverpool miss out on the signing of Alexis Sanchez last summer.

England coach Gary Neville believes that Alexis Sanchez would have been an "ideal replacement" for Luis Suarez at Liverpool.

The Chile international, who helped secure Arsenal's path into the knockout stages of the Champions League last night with a long-range strike against Borussia Dortmund, has now scored 10 goals in 10 games for club and country.

Liverpool have struggled since the departure of marksman Suarez, meanwhile, who went in the opposite direction with a move to Barcelona in the summer.

"[Sanchez] would have been an ideal replacement for Luis Suarez," Neville told Sky Sports News. "Goals, tenacity, pressing from the front, loses the ball – it goes past him he runs back.

"Everything Liverpool would have wanted to replace Suarez, obviously you could argue he wouldn't score the goals Suarez would score, but I think he would have been the perfect replacement for Suarez. It's a real shame for Liverpool they didn't get him, but a massive plus for Arsenal."

As well as enjoying a purple patch in front of goal, Alexis has also created 30 chances for his teammates so far this season.
